Those Plotting Saraki’s Fall Are Enemies Of Democracy, Says Ortom

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said Friday that those plotting to overthrow the leadership of the National Assembly were enemies of the country’s democracy.
In a press statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Terver Akasa, the governor urged the persons behind the plot to take a close look at the country’s constitution as well as Senate rules to be properly guided.

The governor stated that though the election of a President of the Senate requires simple majority, removing the holder of the office takes two-thirds of the entire Senate members.
Governor Ortom described the attacks on Senate President Bukola Saraki, including moves for his impeachment and threats to freeze his accounts, as unfortunate developments which must be condemned and resisted by all patriots.
He added that Senator Saraki had demonstrated uncommon capacity to lead the Senate, pointing out that the Senate President had done nothing wrong in defecting from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Governor Ortom wondered why those who defected from APC become targets for victimization by Federal Government agencies while those who move from other political parties to the ruling party are celebrated as ‘saints’.
He called on Nigerians to condemn the wave of impunity prevailing in the country, in the interest of democracy and nation-building.

Oshiomhole Vows: Saraki Will ‘definitely’ Be Impeached

Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has insisted that Senate President Bukola Saraki will not only be “definitely impeached” but will also be defeated in his senatorial district in 2019.

He disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday while reacting to Saraki’s position that he could only be impeached by the two-thirds majority of the Senate.
Oshiomole said that Saraki will not only be removed but the party will work hard to ensure that he is defeated in his senatorial district in 2019 and he will not return to the senate.
He noted that Saraki’s time and political dynasty in Kwara State are over in the political scene of the country.

“Saraki will not be the first to be impeached and I doubt if is going to be the last but definitely he will be impeached according to law and according to the democratic norms,” Oshiomhole said.
“The only way Senator Saraki can avoid impeachment is for him to do what is honourable, which aghttp://saharareporters.com/2018/08/10/oshiomhole-vows-saraki-will-‘definitely’-be-impeachedain leads to the issue of character.

“He failed to understand that the Nigerian national project is more complicated and is not that easy. He will not only be impeached, we will work hard to have him defeated as a senator in his own senatorial zone come 2019 by the people of Kwara State who are fed up with him and who are fed up with Bukola.

Why I Ordered the Invasion of NASS- Daura Lawal

The sacked Director General of the Department of State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura, has confessed that he deployed hooded operatives of the secret service to the National Assembly on Tuesday based on intelligence report that unauthorised persons were planning to smuggle dangerous weapons and incriminating items into the complex.

His confession was disclosed in the interim investigation report submitted by the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim to the acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
In the report seen by Daily Trust, IGP Idris argued that Daura carried out the siege on the National Assembly without the approval of the acting president.

Photos: President Buhari hosts wives of 36 state governors

President Buhari has commended wives of Governors for the various humanitarian activities they carry out in their states. He made the commendation last night when wives of state governors paid him a visit under the auspices of the Northern and Southern Governors Wives Forum at the Presidential Villa on Saturday 26th May, 2018.

President Buhari assured the governors’ wives of his support and assured them that he would canvass more moral and financial support for them.
“I appreciate the role you are playing as your work helps in pricking the conscience of the people.” He especially commended their work on the IDPs and disadvantaged children as well as the fight against drug abuse.
President Buhari also encouraged them to interface with Central Bank of Nigeria and Federal Ministry of Agriculture over new and existing opportunities that women farmers and entrepreneurs can take advantage of.
The wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, speaking at the occasion, underscored the complementary role that wives of Governors play in supporting the programmes and policies of their husbands, stressing the need for the governors to encourage them. She highlighted areas where efforts are more pronounced as girl-child education, child abuse, women and youth empowerment and health promotion.

“Äs mothers of the states, wives of governors have the ears of women and youths; this is so because they run programmes that directly touch these categories of Nigerians” she said, calling on the President to support their work.
Chairperson, Northern Governors Wives Forum, and wife of the Governor of Bauchi State, Mrs. Hadiza Abubakar said apart from issues of maternal health and girl-child education, the flagship programme of the forum is prevention of substance abuse, for which they rally stakeholders to come to a holistic solution. She commended the ban on codeine-containing cough syrups, describing it as a major breakthrough.
The Forum, she stated, is advocating for the revival of moribund drug rehabilitation centers and the establishment of new ones in states that do not have them.
Chairperson, Southern Governors Wives Forum and wife of the Governor of Imo State, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha, said their activities take a cue from the works of Mrs. Buhari’s Future Assured Programme and focuses on issues of cultism, kidnapping, child labour, baby factories and youth restiveness. She said the Forum had trained 1000 women in different skills, while 2000 school children were supported with educational materials.

Highlight of the event were presentations to the President by the two leading wives of Governors.

Meghan Markle responds to a friend who felt weird about her royal status

Before Meghan Markle became the Duchess of Sussex, she was simply Meghan, an American actress who had no fancy titles attached to her name.
Now, she's referred to as Her Royal Highness and the Duchess of Sussex and this left some of her old friends quite confused.

Her friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin said he did not know where he stood with the Duchess and had no idea how to address her or be around her.
He said: "I asked her 'do I bow to you? I don’t want to disrespect you, but I’ve known you for almost ten years. What’s up?' "

To which Meghan started laughing and said: "I’m always going to be Meg."
The makeup artist, however, vowed to be on his best behaviour the next time the two catch up.
He added: "But next time I see them I will be respectful and know my protocol. But Meg is always going to be Meg, that’s how it is!"
