2023: EMERGING PERSPECTIVES TO POWER ROTATION IN OJU/OBI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: James Igiri Odeh

A couple of days ago, a friend and brother, Ade Joseph Otor, came up with an article titled: The mistake PDP should not make in Igede in 2023. In the said article which enjoyed readership from different strata of the Igede Society and beyond, he harped on the need for the House of Representatives seat to move from Obi to Oju in the interest of fairness, equity and justice.

While this is not a rejoinder to that shared perspective, in the strictest sense of the word, it is seminal to bring other issues to the front burner with a view to balancing the analysis as in our considered opinion, there were wilful and subtle omissions or commissions in the aforementioned write-up which this piece seeks to address. CHIEF BRIGHT IGODO OGAJI

GROUP URGES CHIEF BRIGHT IGODO OGAJI TO VIE FOR SENATE

Arising from a very crucial meeting held in Oju LGA on the 29th January, 2022, a group under the aeges of Synergy Group has urged Chief Bright Igodo Ogaji, a former Oju Local Government Council Chairman and an American based entrepreneur to contest for the Benue South Senate under the auspices of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election.

The group is a conglomeration of progressive elements in the People's Democratic Party(PDP) from the Benue South who feel that Igede is due to producing a Senator in Zone C. This demand is obviously harped on the need to domesticate the universal principles of equity, justice and fairness which constitute the mantra upon which the Southern Benue is demanding for a Benue Governor in 2023.
The statement signed by the duo of Comrade Ogbale Ogah and Hon. Andy Onoja lauded the efforts of Igede In 2023 Movement for its sustained commitment to the agitation for Igede Senator in 2023. He called for concerted efforts of men of goodwill to ensuring that Igede gets justice in 2023. According to them, ' we must not be seen as been pretentious on our reliance on equity to getting our due from the larger Benue when we are not seen practicing same equity back home. We must therefore do what is proper'.

The Group's resolve to throw it weight behind Chief Ogaji Bright Igodo if he accepts the call to run is borne out of his sterling qualities. As a former Chairman, he is said to have performed so creditably well in a manner that leaves his legacies unrivalled and unsurpassed till date. He is also believed to have the needed formidable and dependable network within and outside the Zone to actualizing this.
It should be recalled that since 1976 when Benue State was created, no person from Old Oju has ever been a Senator from the Benue South which is divided into three Zones: Old Otukpo, Old Oju and Old Okpokwu blocs . Over the years, the Old Otukpo and Old Okpokwu have produced all the Senators from the Zone. It is therefore considered auspicious that in the spirit of inclusive politics which forms the kernel of democracy, Old Oju be allowed to produce the Senator of the Zone in 2023

Benue @46, Hon Onah Blessed congratulates |Governor Ortom

CONGRATULATIONS
BENUE STATE

CAPACITY 2022: HERE AM I, SEND ME

Arise O' compatriots!

The time to reset Oju LGC is now. This is a clarion call to see to that.
We can't continue like this. I call on all men of goodwill to rise up now! Let's rescue Oju LGC's retrogression. We shall demystify governance and set the people free.

If you belong to the progressive class, please, talk to whoever you can at the top. Sir, do whatever you can from wherever you are. In all ways, let us all come together now to reset Oju LGA for the common good of all. So many of our primary concerns that are not quite beyond what Oju LGC can address will be well attended to as the spirit may lead us. I have a strong feeling that I can help you reset the system.

I call on all prayer warriors to rise up and let's go and bring Oju LGC back to the owners, the people. It is time for spiritual warfare because the enemies of our common good are very much at alert with their multidimensional arsenals. I know the spiritual controls the physical. So there is the need to win them ahead. They wouldn't want to let the people go forward. Spiritual leaders, rise up with me let's take the system and free the people.

I call on all the economic giants from Oju LGA scattered across the world to rise up with every sense of responsibility for this rescue mission. Until you have a sound political direction, you all wouldn't be able to express your economic intelligence in your immediate environment. Political power controls economic power. Our locality can be made to attract certain major economic orchestrations for big players to come in and trigger the take off of an unstoppable prosperity for the people leaning majorly on Agriculture and commerce. Let us join hands to rescue our land now!

Our youths, helpless women, hopeless people, let's remain resolute and consistent. We shall reset the system together. Great time awaits us.
To all the enemies of the people, haters of the common good and those that have made themselves available for the devil to use in holding this land down all the years, we are coming in the name of the Lord. Hear ye the words of the Lord clearly: "LET MY PEOPLE GO."

Amangla awetu; Aluta continua!
Andyson Iji Egbodo
Oju LGC Chairmanship Aspirant

THE INCONGRUENCE OF GOVERNOR SAMUEL ORTOM ON ARISE TV By Garba Shehu

There are two types of politicians in Nigeria today. The first are politicians who are leaders that offer solutions to the challenges facing the voters and the country. They bring forward policies, and implement them, to improve the lives of others.
The second, politicians who offer excuses for the challenges voters face. They avoid ideas and instead blame others for problems they have either not solved or have themselves created.
President Muhammadu Buhari is a leader. He inherited a treasury that had been emptied by successive previous administrations – and he sought and succeeded in repatriating billions of dollars of stolen funds from overseas. His administration discovered more than 500,000 bank accounts operated by Ministries, Agencies and Departments. In these accounts, the money belonging to the government was kept. Same government agencies went to the banks to borrow money kept by sister agencies at exorbitant interest rates. What is more, some of the signatories had left the service or were “unknown” and so no one had access to the funds. MDAs are now compelled to use the Treasury Single Account, TSA, domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria. And the President brought forward the first and only plan to address farmer-herder clashes in 100 years, supporting states to rediscover grazing reserves and create ranching lands that have successfully reduced tensions while increasing harmony and saving lives.

Governor Samuel Ortom, office holder, is that other politician. He inherited unpaid salaries and pension arrears – and rather than find a way to raise the funds to pay them, he has blamed the President.
This is a President who has not failed to pay the salary of those working for the federal government and declared the failure of states to do so “a national disaster.”

To avert this, he had, at various times lent money to the states in excess of N1.682 trillion, and Benue, Mr Ortom’s state did not miss out on all occasions: Salary Bailout, Excess Crude Loan and Budget Support loan, each repayable in 20 years. Lagos for instance didn’t collect any of the loans. A few other states declined to take one or two. Mr Ortom, an office holder who collected on all occasions, currently holds the country’s longest record of unpaid salaries and pensions, has no reason, absolutely no reason, to blame President Buhari for the mess in which he put his state and its workers.
Having first come claiming that his predecessors created the arrears, it was his business to prove that he was better by paying. Instead of doing that, he joined them! And while he runs up even further salary and pension debts on top of those he was bequeathed, instead of respecting the voters who elected him to office, he publicly attacks them in unprintable words and has raised his own thuggish militia to harass and violate them.

The Governor now claims the voters wish to be “rescued by the PDP” and “regret voting for Buhari.” The voters, of course, will not be asked to vote for the President again because – as a leader – President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC respect term limits and the constitution, and will stand down next year at the end of his second democratically elected mandate. It seems unlikely, however, that any voter would seriously consider it possible to be “rescued” by a party that would today, allow a politician such as Governor Ortom in its ranks.

What is certain, however, is that Nigeria has had enough of failed politicians who blame others as a diversion for their inability to improve citizens’ lives.

The Gambler

On a warm summer's evening
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with the gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us
And he began to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
Knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes
So if you don't mind my sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice"

So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy
You gotta learn to play it right

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
Every gambler knows

That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep
'Cause every hand's a winner
And every hand's a loser
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep"
And when he'd finished speakin'
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
Faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler he broke even
But in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em (when to hold 'em)
Know when to fold 'em (when to fold 'em)
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done
