Those Plotting Saraki’s Fall Are Enemies Of Democracy, Says Ortom

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said Friday that those plotting to overthrow the leadership of the National Assembly were enemies of the country’s democracy.
In a press statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Terver Akasa, the governor urged the persons behind the plot to take a close look at the country’s constitution as well as Senate rules to be properly guided.

The governor stated that though the election of a President of the Senate requires simple majority, removing the holder of the office takes two-thirds of the entire Senate members.
Governor Ortom described the attacks on Senate President Bukola Saraki, including moves for his impeachment and threats to freeze his accounts, as unfortunate developments which must be condemned and resisted by all patriots.
He added that Senator Saraki had demonstrated uncommon capacity to lead the Senate, pointing out that the Senate President had done nothing wrong in defecting from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Governor Ortom wondered why those who defected from APC become targets for victimization by Federal Government agencies while those who move from other political parties to the ruling party are celebrated as ‘saints’.
He called on Nigerians to condemn the wave of impunity prevailing in the country, in the interest of democracy and nation-building.

Oshiomhole Vows: Saraki Will ‘definitely’ Be Impeached

Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), has insisted that Senate President Bukola Saraki will not only be “definitely impeached” but will also be defeated in his senatorial district in 2019.

He disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday while reacting to Saraki’s position that he could only be impeached by the two-thirds majority of the Senate.
Oshiomole said that Saraki will not only be removed but the party will work hard to ensure that he is defeated in his senatorial district in 2019 and he will not return to the senate.
He noted that Saraki’s time and political dynasty in Kwara State are over in the political scene of the country.

“Saraki will not be the first to be impeached and I doubt if is going to be the last but definitely he will be impeached according to law and according to the democratic norms,” Oshiomhole said.
“The only way Senator Saraki can avoid impeachment is for him to do what is honourable, which aghttp://saharareporters.com/2018/08/10/oshiomhole-vows-saraki-will-‘definitely’-be-impeachedain leads to the issue of character.

“He failed to understand that the Nigerian national project is more complicated and is not that easy. He will not only be impeached, we will work hard to have him defeated as a senator in his own senatorial zone come 2019 by the people of Kwara State who are fed up with him and who are fed up with Bukola.

Why I Ordered the Invasion of NASS- Daura Lawal

The sacked Director General of the Department of State Security Service, Lawal Musa Daura, has confessed that he deployed hooded operatives of the secret service to the National Assembly on Tuesday based on intelligence report that unauthorised persons were planning to smuggle dangerous weapons and incriminating items into the complex.

His confession was disclosed in the interim investigation report submitted by the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim to the acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
In the report seen by Daily Trust, IGP Idris argued that Daura carried out the siege on the National Assembly without the approval of the acting president.
