On my way from Anyigba to Abuja by commercial transport, I had to
alight at Giri junction, to pick a cab that was to link me with another
cab to my destination. I had a heavy suitcase and a bag. When we got to
Lugbe, the cab driver hurriedly dropped me off when he saw a cab going
to my final destination. In the process of dragging the heavy suitcase,
and in the usually chaotic motor park, I forgot to pick my bag.
As I approached the hotel in Jabi, now feeling relaxed, I remembered my bag which contained the following items:
1. Laptop
2. A bundle of N50,000, and a cheque
3. A pair of golden earrings
4. My International Passport
5. Power bank, ATM cards, Driver's license, etc.
I went back to Giri junction to report to the NURTW officials. That was when I discovered that many drivers operated as freelancers and might not be traceable. I became desperate.
I exchanged contact numbers with the NURTW official and went back to the hotel. I couldn't really concentrate on the assignment I came to Abuja for.
I hadn't informed my husband.
The cab driver searched my bag, extracted my husband's mobile number from my driver's license and called him.
My husband mistook him for a fraudster and told him off. I later informed my husband and he gave me the driver's number.
Alas!
He had my bag.
He had attempted to reach me on Facebook even.
I got my colleagues Clara and Moses to speak Hausa with him and we arranged to meet at the hotel two days later, when he returned from a trip. He emerged at the hotel with the bag and the contents intact!
Despite the rot, decadence and socio-economic hardship, there still exist people like Abubakar Hassan (0802 716 4473) with good morals.

I first of all congratulate you on your recent victory at the Court of Appeal which returned you back to National Assembly for the third term. I think you are the first to enjoy such privilege from Igede nation thus, I joined others to identify with you.
Sir, i know very well that you are aware of the intrigues and the dynamics of Igede politics in recent times.
Sir, it may interest you to know that what happened in the last general election was an indication that Igede nation which you are representing is changing in all ramification and as such her leadership should not just undermine this reality. Against this background I write this letter to add my voice to the many advices you may have received from other well meaning individuals or groups. This I considered important because leadership is a responsibility and followers should be your focal point which all your agendas should be centered upon.
At this juncture i want to onbehalf of my community and the entire good people of Uwokwu youths appreciate you for the commencement of electrification process in Uwokwu land, I heard from your Social Media team that you have given the matching order to the contractor handling the rural electrification of Uwokwu clan to resume work immediately. We are patiently waiting to see electricity in Uwokwu land like other communities in Igede.
Sir, I wish not to put more demands on your leadership because your main function as a legislator is to make good laws for the governance of the country. However, since you are the highest political office holder from Igede nation now, we expect you to perform both executive and legislative functions. To do this effectively, I wish to suggest few things for your consideration.
Firstly, you must use your good office to work in synergy with all elected and appointed leaders from Igede nation. This include the three state assembly members, two chairmen of Local government council, all the commissioners/advisers, board members of both state and federal agencies from Igede land among others. All of you should see a bigger picture of Igede land, though we are not there yet but you are in charge to deliver to us and the future generation the needed development that will bring to reality the bigger picture we are seing. All those that contested with you are critical stakeholders and their views and inputs will be relevant to your representation. I then plead with you to run an all inclusive representation.
Secondly, you must activate the process of peaceful relationship among the various units of Igede nation. The crisis of the last election has further divided Igede nation. It is more like one clan against other or one local government against other. The political actors are so divided that Igede nation today cannot speak with one voice any longer. This is very distructive for a minority like us, a house that is divided against itself cannot achieve anything in the complex political configuration called Nigeria. It is imperative for you to call for Igede peace conference where all relevant stakeholders will re-examine themselves and agree to work for the Igede interest.
Sir, it will interest you to know that, we no longer have men/women who have Igede interest as we speak, rather, we are more concern about our personal and clannish interest.
Furthermore, Rt. Hon Sir, leadership is a responsibility, therefore you shall allow constructive criticism of your representation. On this note, the Igede youths and other stakeholders should be free to criticize you and offer suggestions where necessary. Criticism is not hate speech as Sen. Abdullahi want us to believe. Organizing town hall meetings to report back to the people will be fantastic as people will be there to ask you questions as regard to your style of leadership and how it affects them. You should be ready to give account of your 8 years in the NASS with details explanation of the amount of money allocated to Oju/Obi federal constituency projects/programmes that were executed with locations specified. This will put to an end the arguments that you are not doing much for the people.
Sir, you will recall that when Obasanjo came back to power in 1999, he assembled some of the best brains in Nigeria to work with him. The result of that assembly of great men and women, Nigeria was able to record some significant achievements despite the fact that the country was just returning from dictatorial regime of General Sani Abacha. The records are there. The Soludo, Agbabi, the Dora, Ribadu, Ojowu, Elrufai among others. These people were able to create institutions and agencies that Nigerians are celebrating today. I wish to plead with you to assemble the best brains in Igede land to work with you. I sincerely believe that you can achieve more purposeful leadership with great brains working with you than just your party men and women. Even within your party, there are best brains you should work with to achieve great results for the Igede nation. Look for them and give them responsibilities. You will be amazed what you can achieve with them. The likes of Rt. Hon. David Ombugadu of Akwanga/Eggon Nasarawa/ Wamba Federal constituency was able to do more in his constituency projects because his team was selected based on competency.
Rt. Hon, the Igede intellectuals should be seen in contributing immensely to your representation. You are their leader today but their intellectual theories and practices are relevant to development. They should be able to give you the needed templates to govern your people. Our traditional institutions in Igede should be awaken to their responsibilities, they should uphold our rich cultural heritage and practices.
It is a known fact that Igede today lack basic social amenities like good roads, schools, hospitals, electricity etc. Without these amenities, there is no way our people will enjoy the dividends of democracy. Many of our youths are without government jobs and there are no enabling environment for them to go into private businesses. Therefore, the inclusion of Otukpo Oju Ogoja road in the federal budget should be your concern as it will open many other opportunities for us. Also linking the road from Uwokwu District to Ebonyi State is another area of attracting development to our people. On the issue of electricity, there are still many communities in Igede without it. The Oju council ward, the Idelle council ward, the Oboru/Oye, the Itogo among others. Sir with all due respect, I stand to be corrected, Igede nation because of her peculiarity needs federal government school like Federal College of Education or Federal polytechnic. This is because educational institutions have the potentials of attracting other dividends to the people.
There are many mineral deposit in Igede land. You should use your good office to liaise with Federal Ministry of Mining to visit Igede land to see the possibility of mining those deposit.
I am aware that every that very soon, the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission will conduct election into Local government council. This election should test our resolution as people to select the best to represent us at the council level. Sir, your work will be easier if you have effective local government chairmen at the local governments. The synergy with good council administrator will ensure that dividends of democracy are deliver to the people.
I also want to plead that your media team especially the social media should be more coordinated. This is not in any way trying to insult anybody. For some of us that follow the social media, they should be careful in the kind of responses they give to those that criticize and praise you. The position you are holding today is for all Igede sons and daughters and they are all entitled to their opinions as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
We are equally looking for you to display activism in the floor of the house by sponsoring quality bills and motions.
Rt. Hon. Okwu, I know some of your loyalists will not accept my position here but I plead with you to pick the good ones and leave the rest for me the writer. I am not in any way trying to please anybody but to contribute to the debate on Igede development. This attempt is because I am an Igede man.

Andi-Ibilla Mountain Race, Traditional Wrestling , Cooking Competition, Agba Marathon Race, Igede Language Competition, Agba Beauty Pageant , Traditional Wrestling, Igede Traditional Competition, Thug of War, and the Grand finally with take place on the 7th at Oju LG Pavilion.
