WHAT IS THE FATE OF ALIADE - OBARIKE ROAD AS ORTOM CLOCKS 2YEARS IN OFFICE
Ugaba Emmanuel writes
When the administration of His Excellency, Chief George Akume and
Prince Ogiri Ajene awarded the contract for the construction of Aliade
to Obarike- Ito road to a construction company in 2005, the people
living and doing farming business along the road were full of praises
because of the social, political, cultural and economic benefits
attached to the road.Read more................................
The
construction company indeed started the construction of the road in
earnest and almost completed the construction of bridges and culverts
along the about 40km stretch of the road let alone sand filing and the
actual road work. After a while, the construction company ( name
withheld) started to relocate their equipments from the site for reasons
best known to them. The "whys and therefores" to their actions remain
unanswered to the people to date.
When the administration of
Governor Ortom came on board, the books of the projects account of the
previous administrations were opened and it was on record that Aliade to
Obarike Ito road contract was fully executed, completed, sealed and
delivered and fully settled.
This was a huge shock to our God fearing Governor Ortom, having discovered that it was a greatest lie of the decade.
The Governor was furious and promised to treat the matter with the
seriousness it deserved. He further ordered the construction company to
complete the job or face prosecution.
Two years have now gone by
after the said order was given and nothing has happened. No news about
the road has been heard again, everything has been silent and the people
are suffering.
My question now is, considering the social,
political, cultural and economic value the construction of that 40km
road has to the development of our people, is the construction company
above the law of the land?
Secondly, has the project account proven the record of complete payments made to the contractor wrong?
I wish to appeal to our God fearing governor to revisit this issue,
considering the enormous benefits the construction of this road will
give to the people of Oju, Obi and Gwer LGAs.
