HOUSE OF REPS,OJU/OBI: EVOLVING FACTS:

HOUSE OF REPS,OJU/OBI: EVOLVING FACTS:
By Otor Ade

I have just been reasonably convinced to attempt proffering some explicable views to the lingering or revolving discourse on the highly vexatious and topical issue of the House of Representatives for Oju/Obi Federal Constituency. This topic is quite nebulous with diverse strands of opinions.
read More after the cut .......................................

This particular epistle is predicated on James Ibechi's constant allusion to the Rev.Pinot Ogbaji's challenging commentary where he(Pinot) has tasked the Oju people to be forthright or forward with arguments as to why the much contentious House of Representatives position won't be conceded to Obi LG in a third term in 2019..As according to him,the position is for Obi LG since Oju LG had earlier spent three terms.
Ordinarily, one would have looked away from such comments. Be that as it may, such comment coming from Rev Pinot Ogbaji been the only surviving politician from Obi LG that participated so actively from the pre-democratic era of 1998 till this democratic epoch not only calls for concerns but some worries. This is because, many of us have firmly believed that the highly sagacious and astute Rev. Pinot Ogbaji ought to be more practical, historical and critical with his views. But,only time shall tell.

In 2007,when the Igede people zoned the House of Reps position to Obi LG inspite of the fact that an Obi man, Chief Ogiri Ajene was holding sway as the Deputy Governor,it was rather appalling how some Obi LG forces teemed up to undo a rare and a much celebrated political magnanimity of Oju LG to Obi LG.
For umpteenth time, these forces got to work as soon as Hon. Augustine Abeh indicated his interest for House of Representatives. Even with the commitments of the leading political actors from Oju LG, the formidable force from Obi LG against its own son could not be surmounted as the sitting deputy governor and his group invented all strategies to scuttle an Obi agenda for Reps..

In a twist of fate and the reality of history, same Rev. Pinot Ogbaji who is so gifted with oration was the spokesman of the anti-House of Reps group from Obi LG.For whatever selfish reason, that group succeeded in pushing away Reps from obi LG and rather 'loaned' it to Hon. Augustine Adikpe from Ainu of Oju LG. Methin, how that loan will be repaid is a matter for the Obi conditioned political benevolents and pundits of that era. What I do particularly know is that; we won't allow some malignant selfish interests overtime to bring us on the knees in the Igede political horoscope.. We have risen above those prebendal forces that held us for so long in political abeyance. Igede must move forward from the effects of a highly personalized political system of the 1999-2007.And categorically speaking,Oju LG should not be held accountable for the default of that era.The 'dramatis personea' of that era should rather show remorse to the people of Obi LG for their complicity in abdicating what was rightly thiers in 2007.Such persons whom have squandered the prospects and the promises of Obi LG in the time past will never be allowed to confuse us politically.

I expected Rev Pinot Ogbaji to be more equivocal having been part of the forces that impaired or rather sold the slot for Obi LG.I m however excusing him now to play a benign patriotism to his Obi LG without me having any doubt that,he will be aligning with the most objective perspective when it matters most. This shall be a subsisting legacy for us,his children..
Importantly, nobody is on a collision course with any aspirant from Obi LG.What is rather amusingly provocative is them attempting to play wise on us. We must sit down to review the historical issues involved in this issue.Hesitant and extravagant expenditure without exploring the communitarian platform in Igede not only smack desperation but is also indicative of a premeditated conviction for defiance.

It is not now that one will be speaking against zoning which has been entrenched in Igede body polity.Without zoning, there won't be direction, tranquility and mutualism. We must not throw away zoning because of some desperate elements. Doing so will amount to returning Igede to the era of personalization of politics and its woes.God forbid that we will ever return to that path after the several efforts at purifying the system.
Importantly,I have never subscribed to the view that Obi LG be regarded as a clan in Igede politics.Inasmuch as we seek to downplay that fact,we should be constantly reminded that politics is about number. As such, the voting strength of Obi LG is not even up to that of Ainu(just a ward) in Oju LG. This is why we must imbibe the zoning culture against impunity and a near anarchical platform..As brothers,we must not be allowed in any guise to imbibe the realist culture of 'might is right'..Let's keep talking.
