The Lecturers have complained that
the issues they have with the Government is not leading to a green
light, which has facilitated the need for an Indefinite Strike.
The Lecturers pleads that they do not enjoy some benefits which are enjoyed in other places.
1) HEALTH INSURANCE : The Government in any way has not provided any form of Health Insurance for the Lecturers which means that the Government do not have the interest of the Lecturers at heart with regards to their well being.
2) PENSION : It is however displeasing to know that these Lecturers do
not enjoy any pension plan which is supposed to be enjoyed upon
retirement which means that the Government wishes them death before they
reach the age of retiring.
3) OVER TAXATION : Despite the unfavorable situations met by these lecturers, they pay heavy taxes which are not even remitted to the BIRS. A Source which claims She went to the revenue house to register her plot of land was shocked to hear that She was owing tax of about three years which She began working with the University, meanwhile she receives the report of the heavy taxes. Another Source claims that He pays 34,940 as tax, meanwhile there is no benefit derived upon retirement and other logistics.
4)POOR REMUNERATION AND TOO MANY STUDENTS TO TEACH : The Lecturers complain of having too much students which makes the job a tedious one and affects them greatly. They say that with so many Students, it makes Student evaluation so tiring and stressful and they aren't even cared for. A lecturer claims that he sits on plastic chairs as an assistant lecturer in his office which he shares with many others, where people with little qualifications in other organizations sits in spinning chairs.
5) The ASUU Chairman however is said to belong to the BSU Council, which the Lecturers feel is not appropriate, because the Chairman is supposed to be agitating for their well being but with His involvement in the Council, it could lead to boycotting of some activities which would be best for the Lecturers.
This is however bad for the Highest institution of learning.
