My attention was drawn to the above captioned publication on 1st April, 2016 written by one James Ibechi. He reported via Facebook social medium that “Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has awarded the contract for the repair of Awajir-Oju Road, which hitherto is in a state of complete disrepair. Governor Ortom made this known while delivering his April Fool speech this morning”.

I feel that this particular “APRIL FOOL ” touches on the sensitivity of Igede people because of our dehumanizing experiences in Benue State. My consolation is that no body can fool any right thinking Igede person on matters like this under any circumstances because we know how things work in Benue State. The fact is that the real and imaginary dividends of democracy and good governance are not for all sections of the state. It will rather be an abnormality for government to do any good thing on the said road. We can only hear sweet talk about the road again during the next electioneering campaign deceptions in 2019.

The late Adutu of Igede, Chief Ikande Idikwu is therefore, correct when he said that governments usually kill goat with mouth while the Igede people continue to eat only with their ears. “In God we trust”!
